Caroline Perry

1. Caroline Cordelia Perry, wife of Lawrence Buzbee. 2. James Corbett Buzbee with Grandmother, Caroline Cordelia Perry Buzbee

Caroline Cordelia Perry was born 24 Dec 1861 in Monroe County, Alabama in the township of Burnt Corn. Her parents are unknown at this time. I believe that she was orphaned by the Civil War. She is found living with James Hendrix and family in 1870 Burnt Corn, Monroe County, Alabama with 2 other possible orphans, Henry and Calvin Noles. The Hendrix family moved to Hillsborough County, Florida sometime before the 1880 census and settled in the Riverview/Ruskin area. Caroline Perry, Henry and Calvin Noles are found in 1880 Hillsborough County, having traveled with the Hendrix family to Florida. I believe that Caroline could possibly be a grandchild to James and Chloe Hendrix but I am unable to prove it. They had an older daughter that I have not been able to find after 1860. I have not been able to prove any relationship except that she did come to Hillsborough County, Florida with the Hendrix family.

Caroline Cordelia Perry was 27 when she married Lawrence Buzbee, who’s age was around 60 years. Her oldest son, Dallas Lemon Perry is listed as a Buzbee in all census records. He died shortly before the 1930 census, when at that time, his widow, Grace Herndon Perry is listed as a Perry. Dallas’ death certificate states that his last name was Perry and that his father was Dallas Perry, birthplace unknown. Caroline Perry Buzbee was the informant. Her daughter Rosa Olivia Perry, is absent from the family in the 1900 census and I do not find her again until the 1930 census.

Census through the years.

The Early Years

Caroline Cordelia Perry can be found in the 1870 Monroe County, Alabama, Burnt Corn Census. She is 8 years old, living with James and Chloe Hendrix. Later in 1880, after they move to Hillsborough County, she is found, age 16, living with T. B. Smith family as a servant. By 1885, she is living as a single person with Rosa, 3 and Dallas, 3 months. She marries Lawrence in 1888. What I don’t understand is why is Rosa listed as a Buzbee?
