Oliver Henry Buzbee

Oliver Henry Buzbee

A traditional southern dance

Oliver Henry Buzbee was born 28 Feb 1825 in Houston County, Georgia to William Harrison Buzbee and Nancy Cooper. Oliver Henry Buzbee was the fourth of six children. He had two brothers, Lawrence and William; three sisters, Louisa, Georgia A. and Amanda. William Buzbee moved his family to Coffee County, Alabama sometime before 1850, where Oliver Henry Buzbee met Rebecca Secrest Laney, daughter of Evan Laney and Leah Secrest.

Oliver Henry Buzbee married Rebecca Secrest Laney on 26 Jan 1848 in Dale County, Alabama. Sometime after 1860, Oliver Henry and Rebecca moved their family to Coffee County, Alabama. Oliver Henry and Rebecca lived in Alabama for a time and moved to Hillsborough County, Florida sometime before 1870. Oliver Henry and Rebecca had 7 known children; Zachariah Taylor Buzbee, Mitchell Buzbee, John Lawrence Buzbee, Oliver Perry Buzbee, James Monroe Buzbee, Charles Arthur Buzbee, and Jessy J. Buzbee.

Rebecca Laney Buzbee died 19 Jun 1893, in Hillsborough County, Florida and her burial location is not known at this time. Oliver Henry died in 7 Jul 1894 and burial is not known. I believe that they were buried in the Barnes and Buzbee Cemetery in Riverview, along with his brother, Lawrence and his first wife, Caroline Laney Buzbee.

Census through the years.

Family Life

Oliver Henry and Rebecca Buzbee lived in Coffee County, Alabama for a number of years, where Oliver bought considerable property. They moved to Hillsborough County sometime before 1870 and settled in the Riveriew area of the county. At some point the spelling of the Buzbee named changed, Lawrence in Ruskin continued with the Buzbee spelling and Oliver started using the Busbee spelling variation. They lived the remainder of their lives in Hillsborough County, Florida.

Death

Death and Burial

I have not been able to find Oliver and Rebecca Buzbee in the 1860 Federal Census. I did find Land records for Oliver, where he bought 40 acres of land in Coffee County, Alabama in 1860. I also found where their son Mitchell died in 1861 in Escambia County, Florida. I believe they were on their way through Florida during the time that the census was being done and maybe they were skipped over.

Updates

I have added a receipt that I found showing that Oliver H. Buzbee sold wool to the Confederate States during the Civil War at State Line, Miss., which is where Marion A. Buzbee, son of Lawrence said that his father was at when he made salt barrels for the Confederacy.
