Sumner’s 3rd wife was Mary Hobby, they married on the 18th of October 1857 in Worth County, Georgia. Mary Hobby Sumner was born on the 30th of October in 1826 in Georgia. It is said that John C. Sumner had a fourth wife named Peniline Joiner, I have found no records to confirm that. They were married in 1876. Peniline Joiner was born on the 21st of May in 1842 to Joel and Argent Rouse Joiner.

John C. Sumner died 18 September 1915 in Worth County, Georgia, he is buried in the Sumner Cemetery in Sumner, Worth County, Georgia. His 1st wife, Rebecca A. Young Sumner died on the 28th of February in 1853 at the age of 22 years, she is buried in the Joseph Sumner Family Cemetery in Worth County, Georgia. His second wife, Mary Monk died on the 28th of February 1855 at the age of 23 years, she is also buried in the Joseph Sumner Family Cemetery in Worth County, Georgia. (I question the date of death, but it could just be a fluke that the first two wives died on the same date.) Mary Hobby Sumner died on the 10th of October 1875 in Worth County Georgia and is buried in the Joseph Sumner Family Cemetery, Worth County, Georgia. Peniline Joiner Sumner died on the 15th of June in 1919 and is buried in the Sumner Cemetery in Sumner, Worth County, Georgia with John C. Sumner.
