James Corbet Buzbee was born to Lawrence Buzbee and Caroline Cordelia Perry. He was born 29 Mar 1894 in Hillsborough County, Florida. James Corbet Buzbee was raised in the Ruskin area of Hillsborough County. There is a mystery about the children of Lawrence and Caroline Buzbee. Hillsborough County, Florida 1900 Federal Census states that James Corbet was born in September of 1890, which would make him 4 years older than other records show. Nebraska and Arkansas show that they were born in 1888 but they always said 1889, except Nebraska. 1900 Census states Lawrence and Caroline had been married 16 years, when they could have only been married for 12 years. Why does the census say that Nebraska and Arkansas were born 2 months after Lawrence and Caroline got married?
Marriage and Family
James Corbet Buzbee married Annie Belle Hewett on 21 December 1912 in Hillsborough County, Florida. Annie Belle Hewett was the daughter of Henry Moses Hewett and Virginia Swilley. James and Annie had the following children: Charlie Corbett Buzbee, James Cecil Buzbee, Nan Virginia Buzbee, born 6 Nov 1919; Lawrence Henry Buzbee, born 30 Oct 1915, Lillian Cordelia Buzbee and Annie Belle Buzbee, born 25 Jul 1930. James and Annie settled and raised their family in the Ruskin area of Hillsborough County, Florida. James Corbet Buzbee was an avid fisherman and fished commercially in the Ruskin area for many years. I remember as a girl that my grandfather always had a spendid garden of vegetables, he would hang the onions from his shed and when we needed a bunch, we could just go pull some down. Even though he has been gone for over 30 years now, I can still remember his smell of Old Spice colonge and peppermint. He always had Chooz antacid gum in his pocket for him and a pack of Chiclets for the grandkids. I don’t remember much about my grandmother, Annie, except that she had long dark hair that would hit the floor when she brushed it and she always kept it up in two buns.
