Hardy Pitts was born in Georgia on 16 Feb 1821. The link says that he was born in 1824 but his obituary says that he was 72 years old and he died in 1893. If you do the math, that is 1821. I show that he was the son of John Pitts and Nancy Horton. Hardy Pitts was married three times and raised 21 children plus 2 adopted children from his first wife’s previous marriage and 3 adopted children from his third wife’s previous marriage. Hardy Pitts died in Dooly County, Georgia on 29 Sep 1893. Obit was printed on 30 Sep 1893 and states that he died the night before. He is buried in the Pitts Cemetery located in Arabi, Crisp County, Georgia.
Through the years
“Aged 72 years 7 mos 14da,
We miss thee from our home dear,
We miss thee from thy place,
A shadow o’er our life is cast,
We miss the sunshine of thy face,
We miss thy kind and willing hand,
Thy fond and earnest care,
Our home is dark without thee,
We miss thee everywhere.”
The information pertaining to Hardy Pitts is information that I have gleaned from different sources. Some is from documents, and from other individuals. Mary’s widow application is for her first husband, Ramon Davis. All of it is a work in progress and I hope that if you have a correction or have any further proof for Hardy Pitts, please let me know.
Death
My link to Hardy Pitts is through his son, Charles Anderson Pitts, from his third wife. Charles Anderson Pitts married Myra Louise Story, they in turn produced my great-grandfather John Richard Pitts.
