Mary Frances Buzbee was born 23 Sep 1863 in Baldwin County, Alabama to Lawrence and Caroline Laney Buzbee.
Marriage and Family
On 01 May 1887, Mary Frances Buzbee married Hiram J. Moody. Hiram and Mary had two children. Hiram and Mary had a son, Sidney Byrd Moody and had another child between 1900 and 1910 that died. 1900 Federal Census shows 1/1 children for Mary, 1910 shows 2/1, 1 child living, 1 child deceased. Hiram J. Moody was a well respected cattle man and fruit grower. With Mary and Hiram J. Moody being very well to do, they helped out family whenever needed, even providing land for Mary’s brother, William. Their son, Sidney Byrd Moody died at a early age of encephalitis while at home from college on 13 Feb 1913 at the age of 25. Hiram and Mary erected a large monument in memory of their son and set aside monies for the perpetual care of Hackney Cemetery, where Sidney is buried. This money did not run out until the mid 1990’s.
Mary was very active with her church and this seemed to comfort her after the death of Sidney. She donated large amounts of money to the Florida Methodist Orphanage in Benson Springs and was also the Sunday School Superintendent of the Riverview Methodist Church.
Death and Burial
Hiram J. Moody died 26 Nov 1934 and Mary Frances Buzbee Moody died 10 Sep 1936 at the age of 73. Hiram, Mary and Sidney are all buried in Hackney Cemetery in Riverview, Florida. I have not been able to find out anything as of yet about the child that died.
